A postcard from Delhi -- Alex Polyak C'15, Fulbright Scholar writes home

 Last April a second student of the department,  Alex Polyak --SAST major-- was successful in securing a Fulbright Scholarship to support his academic research.  Alex is interested in the development of the Indian middle class circa 1890-1940, and in particular, the merchant families in Uttar Pradesh --previously the United Provinces of Agra and Oudh.

News from Sri Lanka --Kim Kolor, C'15, SAST Fulbright Scholar writes home

Last April Kim Kolor --SAST and Religious Studies major-- was granted a Fulbright Scholarship to conduct pre-Graduate studies research in Sri Lanka. Kim’s research proposal was connected to some preliminary research which she had began in the region while studying abroad in her junior year. She is interested in contemporary post-war society in Sri Lanka and everyday boundary politics --including the rumors as well as the religious and ethnic politics of personal beautification.

Job Posting: Assistant Professor in Modern South Asian Literatures

The Department of South Asia Studies at the University of Pennsylvania invites applications for a tenure-track position at the level of assistant professor in the field of modern South Asian literatures, beginning in Fall 2016. Native or near-native proficiency in at least one South Asian language is required, and proficiency in a second language and literary tradition is highly desirable. The ideal candidate will have an intimate knowledge of the appropriate cultural and historical contexts.

Job Posting: Lecturer in Dravidian Languages

The South Asia Studies Department at the University of Pennsylvania invites applications for a full-time appointment as Lecturer in Dravidian Languages. The appointment will begin in August 2016 and includes teaching three courses per semester. This appointment will be for one academic year and may be renewed twice for a total of three years, contingent upon a satisfactory performance review after each year and approval of the Dean.
