We, The People of India: Decoding a Nation’s Symbols

T.M.Krishna is one of the pre-eminent vocalists in the rigorous Karnatik tradition of India's classical music. As a public intellectual, Krishna also speaks and writes about issues affecting the human condition and about matters cultural. Having authored two award-winning books, Krishna, in his latest book We, the People of India: Decoding a Nation's Symbols, published by Westland in 2026, explores the historical, cultural, and philosophical contexts of India's national symbols - the flag, the anthem, the emblem, the motto, and the Preamble - and reflects on how these symbols have shaped the nation's ideas of citizenship, belonging, and democracy. Krishna has been conferred with multiple prestigious awards and recognitions for his contribution to classical music and social advocacy, including the Ramon Magsaysay Award, Indira Gandhi Award and for National Integration, Sangita Kalanidhi, among many others.
